FAQ
What types of clients do you typically serve?
Many people first need guidance and tax advice when their situation changes. We specialize in helping those in transition, such as receiving an inheritance, planning for retirement or dealing with a job change. Our goal is to give our clients confidence and reduce the anxiety associated with their new dynamics. Others come to us when their situation starts to get more complicated, or they just don't have the time or interest in keeping up with everything necessary to effectively stay on top of their finances.
Can I still work with you if I am not dealing with an inheritance, retirement planning or a job change?
Yes! While we have specific experience in these areas, we are not limited to them. We’re glad to help!
Is there anyone who is not a good fit to work with you?
Actually, yes! We take a long-term view with our tax strategies and investment recommendations. Someone who wants to ‘time’ the market by trying to get in and out, or someone who wants to chase the performance of the latest trend or sector would not be ideal to work with us due to a difference in philosophy.
How often do you meet with your clients?
After our initial 3 Meeting Process, we have found that semi-annual meetings are the most effective. In these meetings we can update your financial plan, review your income and expense changes, fine tune the tax strategies and review investment performance. We can meet in-person, on Zoom, or talk on the phone, as well as exchange documents through our secure vault. We are always available by email and can schedule additional meetings as needed. With our Project-Based Planning, we remain available for a brief period after the end of the process to answer additional questions.
Do you sell any investment products like annuities or insurance that make you a commission?
No! We are Fee-Only advisors, which means we are paid directly by our clients, and we do not earn commissions of any kind. Our method of compensation is the most transparent and objective in order to minimize conflicts of interest. We act as a fiduciary 100% of the time.
I do not live in Exton, PA. Can I still work with you?
Yes! Although we are based in Exton, PA we work with clients throughout the state and country. We use virtual meetings on Zoom, phone calls, emails, and secure file transfers to communicate and share information. You can check out our blog post Security Measures Used in Our Digital Experience. Of course, we are happy to meet face-to-face if you are nearby!
What is most unique about Whitford Financial Planning compared to other firms?
Tax Planning! Most financial advisers can provide investment management services, but We Believe that after-tax returns should be the focus instead of trying to 'out smart' the market. By anticipating your current and future tax brackets, the aim is to pay taxes when the rates are the lowest, which could save you money in the long run and make your money last longer. The best timing for some moves may be years into the future, but each year could present opportunities that can easily be missed if this is not a regular part of your financial plan and investment strategy. Tax Planning can also allow you more flexibility and options for using your assets as a source of income as the economy and tax laws change. Plus, lower overall taxes can result when decisions regarding investment strategies are considerate of the tax implications.
Also, our firm was founded on the idea of keeping things simple for our clients by offering paperless onboarding, modern technology and straightforward solutions!
